Greetings Music Lovers! Hope your Holidays have been nothing less than splendid thus far! 2016 is fast and furiously approaching. Before you know it, 2015 will be in your rear-view mirror. So how do you prepare for this next adventure? You crank up the music of course! Here are 13 New Years related songs for your New Year’s week playlist.

First, let’s strip it down. For those of you who prefer the darker side of the holiday and are feeling more contemplative and somewhat depressed, here is some music to drown your sorrows in the coming days.

This song is beautiful.

Jeff Buckley- New Year’s Prayer (1998)

And have you heard this one?

Scattered Trees- A Conversation About Death on New Year’s Eve (2011)

For those who are waiting for this long December and 2015 to end…

Counting Crows- A Long December (1996)

Still trying to figure out your NYE plans? Thinking about asking that one person but not sure how to ask? Why not send them this version of this classic song? I LOVE it!

Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon -Levitt- What Are You Doing New Years Eve (2011)

And when the clock strikes midnight…it’s not official until Auld Lang Syne has made an appearance! Here are two fantastic options for the traditional Auld Lang Syne: beautiful classic harmonies delivered to you by The Beach Boys…or the always fabulous crooner, Chris Isaak. Better yet, for all you budding DJs out there, why not mash them up!

The Beach Boys- Auld Lang Syne

Chris Isaak- Auld Lang Syne (2004)

After Auld Lang Syne has been sung at the top of your lungs…it’s time to break it down.

ABBA- Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight) (1979)

There’s a strong message in that song for all the lonely hearts out there.

Follow it up with these classic hits in the mix!

The Eagles- Funky New Year! (1978)

U2New Years Day (1983)

Daft Punk- Around The World (1997)

Whew! Can’t. Stop. Dancing. THAT was fun!

As the night starts to slow down and you feel like reminiscing again…

There is one Broadway musical whose song lyrics I have memorized from start to finish. Its name is Rent. And this will forever be a song I reflect upon everytime a new year begins.

Five hundred twenty-five thousand, Six hundred minutes…

Five hundred twenty-five thousand, Moments so dear.

Five hundred twenty-five thousand, Six hundred minutes…

How do you measure-measure a year.

Rent- Seasons of Love (1996)

And why not end the night with one of the most beautiful songs ever written about the New Year and crossing paths with a long lost love. We lost this incredibly talented songwriter way too soon.

Dan Fogelberg- Same Auld Lang Syne (1980)

On New Year’s Day when the festivities have come and gone and it’s official 2016, here’s a beautiful song to help you reflect upon the coming year.

Over the Rhine- New Year’s Song (2014)

Have a very Happy New Year music lovers!

“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language
And next year’s words await another voice.”
T.S. Eliot,

Looking forward to sharing and discovering more amazing music, both old and new, with you throughout 2016. Thanks for listening and inspiring me!
