Perhaps you may have heard the song, Satellite Heart, which gained an extensive popularity after being featured on the platinum-selling soundtrack Twilight: New Moon…
Meet Anya Marina. Last week I was very fortunate to hear her perform live, and I have to say that she has an incredibly unique voice that shines through even more impressively in person. Marina is currently on tour with Joshua Radin, who is another very talented singer songwriter, and it is a perfect match because it makes for a beautiful and inspiring evening watching these two artists when they’re on stage, acoustic and unplugged. Marina came onto the stage wearing a self made dress out of one of Joshua Radin’s concert merch t-shirts, and immediately intrigued all of us. It was just a girl and her guitar. Needless to say, not only does she have one of the most interesting voices I have ever heard, she is also very fun to listen to as she regales tails about her life and the incidents along the way that inspire her writing. Not familiar with her music? Check out this song Move You.
This talented singer songwriter has toured with the likes of Jason Mraz, Paolo Nutini, Chris Isaak, The Dandy Warhols, Tristan Prettyman, and Emiliana Torini, among others. By the way, for those of you who are not aware, Marina is also very funny. Her sense of humor really added to the entire evening and at times I found myself being completely impressed by the fact that not only was I watching this beautiful woman on stage bare her soul to us through her amazing sound and music, but she could also really be a stand-up comedian, and hold her own on the circuit.
Marina is currently doing a Pledge Music campaign to fund her new album Paper Plane. It has been incredibly successful and I will certainly be supporting her endeavors. Please visit: http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/anyamarina if you would like to learn more about her music and support this effort! The new album features the songs Go To Bed which I think you will really enjoy listening to and a great cover of Huey Lewis’ The Power of Love. Remember Back to the Future?
How about some more music? I love grooving to her song All the Same to Me.
Check out her song Miss Halfway that was featured on Grey’s Anatomy.
I was fortunate enough to get to meet Marina after her performance and she is one of the most down to earth artists I have ever met. She was incredibly friendly and I could not help but think that I really wanted her to be my friend. I mean who else is creative enough to come up with a t-shirt that pees rainbows?!!
Support this artist and her music. Visit Anya Marina. I know you are going to love her music as much as I do.
And soon enough the holiday season will be upon us. I suggest adding I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas. I’m going to warn you now, you’re going to walk around singing this and not even know that you’re singing it, because that’s what happened to me this morning, and it’s not even Christmas yet! ENJOY!
Anya, it was so great to meet you this past week. Keep singing and playing your music. We love you! Oh, and thanks for the selfie!!
