So…last night I had the pleasure of coming across a phenomenal band that is currently on tour as the opener for Kacey Musgraves.  The truth is, Kacey is quite talented and writes some clever songs so it was going to be a great show regardless; however, I left the show last night excited that I had come across an awesome new band!  Meet Sugar and The Hi-Lows!

FYI, I have only just discovered their existence, but I am already sort of getting obsessed with listening to this song called Right Time to Tell You.  Here’s a clip of it live from last night!

A cross between americana, rock, and a more classic sound, this band is hot!  They stepped onto the Lincoln Theatre stage in Washington, DC last night, and lit the place up with their hard charged performance and sound.

The band consists of two solo artists, Trent Dabbs from Mississippi and Amy Stroup from Texas, and together they have something special that makes their music absolutely striking.  Their bio for the evening stated:

Sugar & The Hi Lows know that popular music isn’t a mirror, that melodies and lyrics aren’t tethered to the cultural landscapes of their day. Breathing a new sound into music with an old soul, this rootsy, vintage duo reminds us why we dance, especially in the midst of hard times.

That description pretty much nails it.

Check out this clip of them from last night’s show of their song: See It For Yourself.

I really like the official video for the song!

The two artists have had their songs on hit shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Parenthood, Private Practice, So You Think You Can Dance, and Pretty Little Liars.  I can certainly see why they would be popular as songwriters.  Both of these artists are incredible talents.

I had the pleasure of meeting both of them last night, and I made a bee line to purchase their vinyl.  Lucky for me, I got it signed and you better believe that my weekend is going to be filled with their music!  I’m grooving to it right now and I hope that shortly after reading this, you will be too!

Visit Sugar and The Hi-Lows to learn more about them and support this up and coming band.  More importantly, catch them on tour if they’re coming to a city near you.  They are amazing live.

Here’s a link to several of their tracks.  Listen and buy their albums!

Trent and Amy, thanks for signing the vinyl for me!  Consider me a newly devoted fan.  I will definitely stay in touch and extend an invite for the Back To More Cowbell concert series.  Until then, keep on rockin’!
