Greetings listeners. As I sit here wrapping up the last few days of my vacation and taking in the view of the ocean, which once again has reminded us of her powerfulness via Hurricane Joaquin, I thought about what song kept playing in my head.
While most of us have raised our glass and yelled out for our shaker and salt when singing at the top of our lungs to Margaritaville, the one song I feel really deserves to remain on your permanent playlist is Jimmy Buffett’s, A Pirate Looks at Forty. For those of you who may not necessarily be Parrotheads or the biggest fans of Buffett’s island style music, this is the one song that just might change your mind about him.
An introspective song that looks back on life, the choices made– both good and bad, and all of the places this Pirate has visited, this thought provoking song released in 1974, is by far my favorite Jimmy Buffett song.
Here’s a fun clip of the song that includes an interview with Jimmy Buffett over 20 years ago, during which he discusses his inspiration for the song.
Thanks Jimmy for this beautiful tune. It made me a fan of yours.
You can buy Buffett’s starter collection, which includes this song: Here.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend. Stay dry and for those of you in Joaquin’s path or those feeling the effects of it, be safe.
