Happy weekend everyone! Time to relax and hit the recharge button! While you’re recharging, I figured I’d share one of my favorite new bands with you!
From the moment I first came across Kaleo’s All the Pretty Girls, I fell in love with the lead singer’s voice and the band’s overall sound. The song is unique and absolutely beautiful. I couldn’t get enough of it, and months later, it remains on my playlist. Fact- I listen to it at least once a day.
It is featured on my “2015 Summer Grillin’ List” and I make sure that any house guests that visit get a chance to hear it. Everytime this song comes on, people always ask, who is this? I enthusiastically respond with, “it’s Kaleo, aren’t they phenomenal?!”
As a band their sound is powerful, and they are all incredibly talented musicians. Their music is a mix of rock, blues, folk, and a tinge of country. A cocktail well mixed together that produces their rare space in music. The band originates from Iceland, where they have a vast loyal following of fans. I had assumed that I would have to wait to catch them live someday when visiting Iceland finally got checked off my bucket list, but I was wrong! Earlier this year, the band was signed to Atlantic Records (Congrats guys! Very exciting!), and Kaleo has since relocated to Austin, Texas. Great news for you Austinites! I hope that you’ve had a chance to catch one of their shows locally. If you haven’t, you need to go see them! (Please let me know what you think!) The band had their 2015 South By Southwest (SXSW) music festival earlier this year and they have garnered a lot of well deserved attention as result of it.
Their follow up single, Way Down We Go is a powerful bluesy rock song with a lot of soul. It does a great job of exhibiting the lead singer, Júlíusson’s, incredible vocal range and it’s a killer tune that just makes you want to rock out with it. I can’t help but think about classic rock artists like Credence Clearwater when I listen to this song, and I know that Kaleo will be worthy of being in that category some day.
Before I wrap up this feature on this incredible band, that I know is going to make it big, I have to share this evocative performance that you definitely need to watch. Here is their cover of Cher’s Bang Bang ala Nancy Sinatra’s style (remember it in “Kill Bill”?), which they performed for SiriusXM earlier this month. Tell me what you think of it.
I, for one, LOVE it. It blew me away. I was stunned when I came across it and I couldn’t stop listening. It is haunting. It is spine-chilling. But most of all, it is proof that this band is talented and deserves to make it big. They don’t shy away from a challenge and they deliver a worthy emotionally charged performance of it. I think both Nancy Sinatra and Cher should be proud of this rendition of it.
Selfishly, I’m very excited that they are now living in Texas and on tour in the United States (Sorry Icelanders, I can imagine you miss them quite a bit)! Seeing them live will be incredible. To keep tab on news about Kaleo, their tour, and future releases, visit: Kaleo.
Thanks for listening! Hope this gives you some new music to enjoy throughout the weekend.
